Bean Voyage is a non-profit social enterprise that provides training and market access to smallholder women coffee producers so they can produce specialty coffee, earn a better income, and lead their communities towards a sustainable future. Through our programs, we have supported 47 smallholder women in Costa Rica over the past three years, and have increased their income by more than 300% due to increased yield, quality, and direct access to market. Country Manager (Costa Rica):

Bean Voyage is currently seeking an adaptable, successful, and experienced Country Manager as we increase our programming efforts and market share in Costa Rica. In this role, you will be responsible for the success of our expansion into the Costa Rica market—overseeing all aspects of the business; while also coordinating and facilitating the Care Trade training for smallholder women coffee producers around the world. In order to succeed in this position, you need to be highly driven, have a passion for learning about and engaging with new cultures, and a desire to build a business from the ground up.

Duties and Responsibilities:

As our country manager for Costa Rica, you will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating supply chain in Costa Rica;
  • Establishing and building accounts (hotels, offices, coffee shops, and roasters) for Bean Voyage Coffee in Costa Rica;
  • Coordinating and facilitating the Care Trade Program for smallholder women coffee producers;
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of our programs;
  • Coordinating and leading group visits to coffee producing communities and farms;
  • Representing Bean Voyage at events such as markets, fairs, and conferences;
  • Recruiting and training staff (managers and interns) in Costa Rica;
  • Report organizational progress to the operations manager on a weekly basis and to the whole team once a month;
  • Ensure effective implementation of administrative tasks.

Skills and Competencies:

Your profile should match the following requirements:

  • Experience in building relationships with smallholder coffee producers and their communities; priority given to those candidates that have experience in working directly with smallholder women coffee producers
  • Significant experience in finance and marketing fields are preferred;
  • Ability to thrive in high-pressure situations;
  • Outstanding negotiating skills;
  • Problem solving skills;
  • Decisive and committed;
  • Excellent communication and management skills
  • Experience in supply chain management and the coffee industry;
  • Ability to work virtually and connect with the team via slack, whatsapp and emails;
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
